"If you want to do business, you can't keep everything in your head." Our new editorial marketing series for the Private Events Industry opens with this phrase. Three articles, about ten thousand words, all on Insights Plus.
The Italian Private Events Industry is largely made up of micro-enterprises and sole proprietorships — a fact that clearly emerges from the WIM Insights Observatory. For those who work in it, this means a very practical thing: time, energy, and budget are finite resources. They must be focused, not scattered.
Yet marketing, today, offers too many things. Dozens of channels, hundreds of formats, a new trend every week. Without a map, the investment of time is always at risk of being scattered across activities that produce deeply unequal results.
To build this map, last May we organized two webinars dedicated to marketing and communication for our sector. The first, on May 12, with Francesco Tinti — our Digital Advisor — addressed fundamental concepts and operational tools. The second, on May 27, with Elena Colonna put everything in order into a process applicable starting Monday morning.
From those two webinars, a series of three articles was born for Insights Plus, the reserved section of the WIMforPRO platform. Three pillars designed to be read in sequence — but also, each one, independently.
The Concepts. The first article is called The marketing landscape for private events. Five concepts that every operator in the sector should have clear before moving the first euro in communication. The funnel — three acronyms, the same logic, each focusing on a different aspect of the customer's decision-making journey. The Messy Middle, mapped by Google in 2020: the discovery that the audience does not behave in a linear fashion, and what this means in practice for event marketing. The four WIM clusters that emerged from the analysis of over six hundred Italian companies in the sector. The Cialdini principles, with a specific focus on why scarcity in our market is structural and not artificial. And generations as a cross-cutting lens to everything else.
The Tools. The second article, From the toolbox to decisions, moves to the operational level. Two shopping lists — the content you can produce, the channels you can distribute it on — crossed with the generational lens. And above all, two decision-making tools that change the way an entrepreneur allocates their resources. The TIMER filter — Time, Identity, Money, Energy, Reputation — the checklist that every new communication action should go through before being implemented. And the 80/20 principle by Vilfredo Pareto, with a data point that alone is worth the read: 1% of your work produces about 52% of the results. Understanding what that 1% is is probably the most profitable decision you will make this year.
The Process. The third article, How strategy becomes practice, is the longest and most operational. It puts everything in order within a business discipline. The five positioning questions, in a precise order. The distinction between current customer and desired customer, with the GAP read as a working direction and not as a problem. Objectives and KPIs, with an in-depth look at the OKR framework developed by Andy Grove at Intel. The stress test in three comparisons, to be applied to every objective before turning it into a strategy. The opportunity cost as a third decision-making tool alongside TIMER and Pareto. And finally, the three concrete proofs that close the article: one tactical, one strategic, one visionary. Among these, the Bianco Bouquet × Castello di Rocca Cilento case and the Westwick wedding — one of the best examples of positive opportunity cost in our market in recent years.
Three articles, one map. A subject that we are in the right position to help you tailor: years of work in the field, an Observatory with first-hand data, a network of professionals who helped build it with us.
