There's a question every private events industry operator should be able to answer precisely: how do my clients find me? Not in vague terms — "through word-of-mouth and social" — but precisely: which generation uses which tool, with what intent, in which phase of the decision process?
The Sinaptic Digital Thermometer, integrated with the HNWI analysis from the WIM Insights 2026 report, allows building a very precise map. A map that reveals something fundamental: there is no longer a single "right" channel. Communicating only on one format means systematically excluding significant market segments.
Baby Boomers are still the principal holders of global wealth — they hold over $83 trillion in net worth in the USA (UBS, 2025). They are the generation that today commissions their children's weddings, important anniversaries, high-value family celebrations.
Their research approach is text-based and Google-centric. When they look for a wedding planner for their daughter's wedding or a venue for an important anniversary, they open Google and type. They read websites. They read reviews on Google Business Profile. They look for references and testimonials. They trust brands with documented history.
What this means for communication: a professional, updated, well-positioned website on Google is essential to reach this generation. Reviews on Google Business Profile carry disproportionate weight. Quality text content — blogs, articles, detailed service descriptions — are credibility tools.
Gen X is the bridge generation — between the analog world of Baby Boomers and the digital world of Millennials. Cerulli Associates documents that they will inherit approximately $39 trillion in the next ten years, making them the main pool of new HNWIs in the short term.
Their research approach is hybrid: they start from Google, but integrate with references from trusted people, with inspiration found on visual platforms like Pinterest or Instagram, and with reading in-depth content on websites and industry blogs. They appreciate authority and track record — "how have they solved problems similar to mine?" is an important question for them. Direct human service — speaking with a person, not a chatbot — is still highly appreciated.
What this means for communication: Google presence remains essential. But you add the need for a visually strong portfolio (Pinterest and Instagram work for this generation), detailed testimonials from similar clients, and a human and accessible presence — emails answered by a person, not an automated system.
Millennials are becoming a growing share of global HNWIs through their own entrepreneurial wealth and the first inheritances received. They are the generation that built their tastes through Pinterest and Instagram — that discovered quiet luxury, authenticity, sustainability as aesthetic values.
Their research approach is multi-platform and integrated: they use Google for text searches, Instagram and Pinterest for visual inspiration, YouTube for in-depth video content. They are the first adopters of AI as a research tool — they use ChatGPT for recommendations, Claude to compare options, the new AI search tools to aggregate information. Omnichannel presence is essential to reach them.
What this means for communication: it's not enough to be on Instagram with beautiful photos. You need a coherent presence on multiple platforms, with content adapted to each format and audience. An Instagram feed that tells the aesthetic, a YouTube story that tells the process, a website that documents the values. And an increasingly structured presence to be found by AI research tools.
Gen Z is still a minor share of HNWIs — they're young. But they're growing rapidly, especially as heirs of affluent families. And above all: they are already the decision-influencers of many purchasing processes, even those formally paid for by parents.
Their research approach is completely different from previous generations: they don't search on Google. They discover through the feed. Instagram Reels, TikTok, YouTube Shorts — discovery is passive. A floral designer appears in a potential Gen Z client's feed not because she searched for it, but because the algorithm proposed it. If the content captures attention in 3 seconds, it gets saved. If not, it disappears.
What this means for communication: visibility on TikTok and Instagram Reels is commercial infrastructure for reaching this generation. It's not optional marketing — it's the way this generation discovers suppliers. Content must be authentic, visual, immediate, often behind-the-scenes rather than polished.
Gen Alpha is the future generation — still too young to be clients. But those who don't structure their data today won't exist for the AI systems this generation will use as adults. It's the logic of agentic AI: they don't search, they find through structured data. Those who aren't readable by these systems simply don't exist.
The final message: every generation has a radically different research approach. An effective communication strategy doesn't choose one channel — it chooses all relevant channels for its client segment, with messages adapted to each format and intent.
