In Milan, the WIM Tour entered a city accustomed to moving between design, aesthetics and business. The event at Rosa Grand Starhotels offered a clear image of the sector: creative, dynamic and increasingly in need of tools, rules and awareness.
The fourth appointment of the WIM Talks brought together planners, suppliers, brands, creatives and hospitality operators for an afternoon of exchange that went beyond conventional networking. Milan placed one question at the center: how can a highly creative sector become more recognizable, better protected and more sustainable?
The eleven round tables, divided into two working sessions, provided a clear picture of the tensions running through the market. The first concerns professional recognition. The absence of clear regulation and institutional reference points continues to leave room for improvisation, unfair competition and confusion around roles.
In a context where “everyone does everything”, the risk is that professional skills become flattened in the eyes of the client. Expertise becomes harder to distinguish, and the value of the service tends to be assessed through partial parameters, often linked more to price than to project quality.
Communication was, in fact, one of the most discussed areas. Many operators highlighted how difficult it still is to convey to the market the value of consultancy, personalization, method and management capability. Communication that focuses too heavily on cost weakens the story of the work and makes it harder to build a conscious relationship with the client.
Operational challenges also emerged: suppliers not always compliant, venues sometimes reluctant to collaborate with wedding planners, a legal framework perceived as insufficiently protective, and rising costs which, also driven by destination wedding dynamics, risk creating distance from the local clientele.
The proposals that emerged from the discussion move in several directions. First, educating the client and strengthening the culture of the sector through clearer content, more authentic communication and a more conscious use of social media. Then, building platforms, selection tools and certification systems that can help recognize professionalism, transparency and quality.
Training was identified as one of the most urgent levers. Vertical academic pathways, qualified courses and continuous updating tools can help build stronger foundations, useful both for the national market and for international positioning.
Milan also strongly brought back the theme of positioning. Defining one’s target, differentiating the offer, communicating value precisely and accepting competition as part of the market are decisive steps for growth without losing identity.
The event was made possible thanks to the contribution of Anna Frascisco for public relations, while Morlotti Studio Milano curated the visual narrative of the day. The aesthetic identity took shape through the installations by The Blonde Flower and the creations of Sofia Provera Atelier and Le Fate Milano Spose, which introduced a fashion element consistent with the character of the appointment.
Milan sends a clear message: creativity remains a strength, but it is no longer enough on its own. The sector needs culture, structure, tools and a stronger ability to read the market. Within this tension between expressive freedom and the need for rules lies an important part of the future of contemporary weddings.
