Julius Baer and RBC Wealth Management — two of the most authoritative sources on global HNWI consumption behaviors — agree on a fundamental premise: two clients with the same patrimony can desire radically different events if they come from different cultural contexts.

Cultural intelligence isn't an added value for those working with international clients. It's a prerequisite. Those who lack it serve their clients poorly — and they figure it out quickly.

North America (USA and Canada)

The North American HNWI clientele — representing 35.7% of foreign origins in the WIMSurvey25 sample — is the best-known market for Italian operators and the one with which many have the most experience. But here too there are nuances often overlooked.

The preferred style is grand celebration: visible luxury, grand scale, high-quality guest experience. It isn't ostentation — it's the culture of American hospitality, where the number of guests and the quality of their treatment is a sign of host generosity, not vanity.

Budget allocation is heavy on Food & Beverage and entertainment: American HNWIs spend very high proportions of their budget on food, wine, and live entertainment. Photography and video are absolute priorities — the event must be professionally documented to be shared (privately or publicly).

Millimeter coordination is expected as standard. Americans are accustomed to well-documented processes, shared timelines, timely communications. Slow response is interpreted as disorganization. Quotes must be structured and professional. Contracts must be clear on every cost item.

Key operational implication: For American clientele, the iconic and communicable venue is a very strong choice driver. It's not enough for the venue to be beautiful — it must have a story, a name, an identity that can be told. The wedding "in a 17th-century villa in the Sienese countryside" has a narrative appeal that a generically beautiful venue doesn't have.

UK and Northern Europe

British and Northern European clientele — UK-Ireland at 28.7% of foreign origins — has aesthetics and a purchasing process very different from Americans.

The preferred style is understated elegance — quality without ostentation. British HNWIs often prefer sobriety to excess. Fewer flowers, more refined. Fewer guests, more selected. Luxury as impeccable detail, not as grandiosity.

The historic venue with documented history is a decisive element — the British have a very precise relationship with historical heritage and appreciate venues that can authoritatively tell their own story. British formality is still present in formal occasions, even if it has softened over the years.

The decision process is longer and more reasoned than Americans'. The British take their time, ask many questions, request verifiable references. Trust builds slowly — but once built, it's very solid and leads to lasting commercial relationships.

Middle East

The Middle East segment is the highest-unit-value market per event. A UHNW Saudi, Emirati, or Kuwaiti wedding can easily reach budgets of €1-5 million. UHNW density in this region is extraordinarily high in proportion to population.

The preferred style is grandeur: opulence, grandiosity, extended family celebration. Middle East weddings are typically very large events — 300, 500, sometimes more than 1,000 guests. Décor is rich, flowers abundant, lighting spectacular.

Cultural and religious requirements are non-negotiable and must be known precisely. In many contexts, gender separation during certain phases of the event is a religious requirement. Halal menu is standard. Security protocols are extensive — protecting family privacy is an absolute priority. Event social media is strictly controlled.

Key operational implication: Those wanting to systematically work with Middle East clientele must invest in specialist cultural intelligence or collaborate with trusted cultural mediators. Cultural errors in this context aren't only embarrassing — they can definitively compromise reputation.

Urban India

The Indian HNWI market is in extraordinary growth — India is already the world's fourth country by number of millionaires, with projections to continue growing at accelerated rates. 46.5% of Indian HNWIs declare they prefer luxury experiences over material goods.

The Indian wedding is a category completely different from the Western one. It's a multi-day event — typically 3-5 days — with specific rituals that have precise cultural and religious meanings. The Mehendi (henna night), the Sangeet (pre-wedding music party), the Phera (religious wedding ceremony), the Vidaai (bride's farewell ritual) — each is an event in itself, with its own logistics, décor, and entertainment requirements.

Budget is heavy on décor and entertainment. Live music is essential. Guest count is generally very high — rarely less than 200-300, often 500 or more. Multi-vendor coordination — coordinating dozens of suppliers simultaneously over multiple consecutive days — is a specific competence that cannot be improvised.
